Town travel to hosts Daisy Hill as pre season draws to close

Town travel to hosts Daisy Hill this coming Tuesday, with pre season coming to a close as the new season is upon us. Pre season has certainly been a workout for James Kinsey and his squad, and with the soaring temperatures expected on Tuesday, it's definitely going to be a hot one on Tuesday night at the New Sirs stadium.

We sat Down with Kinsey again to gather his thoughts so far. The manager is happy with the progress that has been made and feels, for most parts, his side have been fairly dominant in games.

"We have learnt in recent years not to look into pre season results as they’re worth absolutely nothing. But it’s hard not to be happy with the performances. Apart from the couple of mistakes on Saturday which cost us goals, I feel we have dominated the majority of minutes we have played, against top opposition".

Town played host to Northern Premier League side Warrington Town on Saturday as they walked away with a 3-1 win. It certainly was a tough test, but Town took the fight to Warrington throughout the game, and looked to be the better side in the opening forty five minutes.

"Saturday was tough. But it was the same for both teams. I thought we was the better side in the first half. The second half was a bit of a dead one from the 46th minute after an error gave them a goal. In that heat it can zap the energy out of lads that. They showed good character though and we learnt one or two things again, which is what these games are for ultimately."

With Town’s next game being  tomorrow night, it’s a quick turnaround with extreme temperatures expected on the night. But Kinsey states it's just another game with the opportunity to get minutes in the tank as the new season creeps ever closer.

"We just want minutes in the legs. We’ve told lads not to read anything into the starting line ups both on Tuesday and Saturday as it’s all about building everybody’s fitness levels. It’s going to be a hot one but that’s no excuse. We need to prepare right and make sure we can perform at our best levels."

Finally, Macclesfields on loan midfielder Brandon Newell took a knock during Saturdays game, and it looked worrying at the time, but Kinsey has eased any issues concerning his injuring with the news that he will be back soon. Greg Wilkinson also went off injured, but will be sidelined with a more time consuming injury.

“Brandon is expected be out for around four weeks with a sprained knee. Greg will be a while too with a pulled hamstring. But there’s no time to dwell on that. It is what it is and we will ensure we keep pushing the levels week on week.”
