Wythenshawe Town are delighted to announce the signing of Central Midfielder Sean Sherwood from Runcorn Town.
Town have moved quickly to bring the sought after 28-year-old to Ericstan Park, where he will captain side as we look to build on the foundations of the last few seasons. The defensive midfielder has proved his value at North West Counties level, having won Player of the Season for Chadderton in three of his four terms at the club.
Sherwood was then picked up by Irlam ahead of their first season in the Hallmark Security League Premier Division before a brief spell in the Evostik League with Mossley. Winsford United came calling last September but Sherwood made the switch to promotion chasing Runcorn Town in February, where he and his team mates fell agonisingly short of reaching Step 4 of the National League.
His style of play will be welcomed by the Town faithful and will help fill the gap left by former skipper Joe Yarwood. “He is a natural leader and a superb centre midfield player” commented Manager James Kinsey. It is clear his previous clubs agree with this statement as the strong tackling midfielder has captained three clubs before making the move to Wythenshawe.
Kinsey continued; “We are delighted to have Sean on board. I’ve been a fan of his for the past few years and he was a huge target for us. He had several offers and the fact he has chosen to come and play his football for us is a real statement in itself.”
This message of intent will excite everyone involved with the club as anticipation about the 2018/19 season already starts to build.
The pre-season schedule is starting to come together so watch out for further announcements about the first times Sean will line up alongside his new teammates.
Welcome to Wythenshawe Town Sean!
